An internationally acclaimed, award winning folk roots songwriter, whose songs have been covered by many performers, George is also a troubador who has travelled the world for 40 years, playing pubs, clubs, festivals and concert halls, radio, TV, and street corners. A complete original, he is a songwriter of brilliance with “a voice that layers soul onto tunes like honey dripping off a biscuit.” His enormous repertoire, dexterity on guitar and mandolin, and engaging style are a winning combination, delighting people wherever he plays.

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

  SUNDAY 3 SEPTEMBER

Organised by the Rotary Club in aid of local hospices, this fun event, held at Wicksteed Park in Kettering, is a great day out for people of all ages. As well as Dragon Boat racing there is a children’s funfair, food and drink, stalls of all kinds, and of course great live music organised by Kontra Roots. The festival starts at 11am and runs through till 4pm.

ROOFTOP ARTS CENTRE

  WEDNESDAY 6 SEPTEMBER

An excellent new venue in Corby town centre (it used to be the old library) the Arts Centre is primarily an art gallery with workshops, but Kontra has been asked to put on regular music events there, commencing with a monthly acoustic night called ROOFTOP ACOUSTIC held on 1st Wednesdays. It’ll be an open mic with two featured guests plus resident / MC KEV BUXTON. Our opening night is on Sept 6th when we feature DOUGHBOY 3, JACK LONDON and special opening guests, ZEITGEIST. KETTERING ARTS CENTRE

With the unique instrumental lineup of clarinet, violin and guitar, Threaded create a distinctive and mesmerising sound that is impossible to pigeonhole. A stunning fusion of classical, folk and world music, they are quite unlike anything else and their last concert at the Arts Centre in 2015 was a sensation.
