THE FINEDON SESSIONS

Situated just up the road from Kontra Roots Club is Finedon Community Centre, our concert venue, where we hold quarterly acoustic roots concerts, usually (though not always) on the first Fridays in February, May, August and November. These concerts, organised in association with The Modest Music Group (www.globalsessions.co.uk/modest-music.php) feature prominent name acts from the world of folk, blues and roots, plus supports from the cream of the UK's up and coming acoustic talent. The Community Centre is an imaginatively converted methodist church, which has wonderful acoustics and atmosphere, and is one of the best venues in the region for roots music. As well as legends such as Julie Felix, Wizz Jones, Richard Digance, and The Pretty Things, the Sessions have featured an eclectic variety of top acoustic roots acts in the four years it has been running, including PJ Wright , Adrian Byron Burns, Rory Ellis, the Daniel Smith Blues Band, Katy Lied, Gary Fletcher, Bex Marshall, Emily Maguire, Ramon Goose, and many more.

Tickets are very modestly priced, usually at £8, and can either be bought on the door or pre-booked by phoning 01933 398377 (also for enquiries). Refreshments, including real ales from the local Potbelly Brewery, are available during the evening, and concerts start at 8.00. Doors are open from 7.30. Finedon Community Centre is on the Wellingborough Road, Finedon, Northants NN9 5LG.

REG MEUROSS

The outstanding career of Reg Meuross began in the mid 80s with the hugely successful Panic Brothers duo, after which he went solo, releasing his debut album in 1996, the critically acclaimed ‘The Goodbye Hat’, which was nominated for several music awards. His following four albums were all rave-reviewed and contained several peerless songs that have become classics of the modern folk repertoire, establishing Reg as one of Britain’s finest singer-songwriters. His latest album, ‘The Damned And The Drowned’, features some of the folk world’s top players, and was recently BBC Radio Scotland’s album of the week.

“One of Britains finest singer-songwriters” – Time Out Magazine. “A marvellous set of songs… already classics” –  Sunday Times. “Reg tells it with Soul” – Nick Lowe. “The best high tenor voice this side of the Atlantic” – Hank Wangford. “There’s something special about the way he writes and delivers a song” –  Townes Van Zandt. “Extremely beautiful songs… one of the UK’s most talented singer-songwriters” –  Maverick. “Quintessential Englishness… remindful of John Betjeman set to music” – Country Music People

JACK HARRIS

The stunning songs of Jack Harris have won him much acclaim. In 2005, aged only 19, he was the first international act to win the highly prestigious New Folk songwriting competition at The Kerrville Folk Festival, Texas, since when he has gigged frequently in the UK, USA and Europe, both as a headline performer and support act to the UKs most illustrious folk names. Jack’s live show is a riveting mix of song-craft and story-telling, adorned by intricate fingerstyle guitar and smoky, soulful vocals. Drawing from the narrative traditions of folk and blues music, he brings both into the present, a “born poet”, whose songs are steeped in myth and mystery. His debut album, ‘Broken Yellow’, received great acclaim in both the press and song-writing circles. “Captivating songs, powerful singing and fluent guitar work… an original songwriting talent is at play” – The Telegraph

Richard Digance
